Every month I want to unpack a little of what our mission statement means to me. This is our mission statement:

[custom_frame_left][/custom_frame_left]

“Providing a Christ-centered education to impact the world.”

Our mission at Wesley International School is to provide students with a Christ-centered education: one that inspires them to live a godly life, that instills a biblical worldview, and produces academic excellence—an education that will prepare our students to impact and bless their world with knowledge, insight, action and love.

For me, central to and at the core of being a Christian School is that we are Christ-centered. We are name carriers and we as Christians carry the name of Christ. That means we are his representatives, operating as His ambassadors and in His power, and we are followers of Him. Everything we do should originate from and point back to this center. This has to have an impact on what a Christian Education should look like if we truly believe it should be Christ Centered.

So a Christ centered education, should not just be a programme that teaches the Bible everyday and has Chapel every week or even every day. It even transcends having Christian teachers and praying in the classroom. It is an education where Christ and all he is imbues everything we do.

Christ undergirds, upholds and surrounds all else we try to do here at Wesley International School. My hope and prayer is that He is evident and preeminent in all things that happen on this campus. Let us work together to make this a reality so that all the other things in our mission statement can be build on this firm foundation.

“Since you have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord, live in union with him. Keep your roots deep in him, build your lives on him, and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught. And be filled with thanksgiving.” Col.2: 6-7 (GNB)

Now on to some of the other events happening during this month because we have a full and exciting month ahead of us. Please remember the different events that are coming up and support them fully. Let me celebrate some of what has happened and highlight some of the main events coming up.

This last weekend we were hosting a Futsal Tournament for the high school soccer teams. It went so well. I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to Pak Gusty and everyone who helped in organizing that, and everyone who supported the events.. We had invited several local schools and played after school on Friday and all day Saturday. The girls and the boys came runners-up after going down fighting in the finals to Charis and Setia Budi respectively.

As you already know, coming up on Friday, October 14th is the Talent Show. Many of your children have signed up to show off their God-given talent. I am very excited to see what they are going to perform. Everyone is invited to come along, starting at 6pm. If you are coming, please bring a small plate of snack with you to share with everyone.

Wednesday, October 7th is also the last day of the 1st quarter. Can you believe time is flying by so fast? There will be no school on Monday and Tuesday October 10th and 11th.  The following week on Friday, 14th October, we will hold parent teacher conferences. There will be no regular classes on this day. Parent Teacher conferences will start at 7:30 until 1 pm. Elementary teachers will make appointments with you individually to come and see them. The high school teachers will be in the Gym waiting for you to come and speak to them. Please take this opportunity to find out about how your son or daughter is doing. Please remember that if you ever want to speak with one of your children’s teachers then you don’t have to wait for a special occasion like this you can simply make an appointment to see them at your and the teachers convenience. We want the parents to be involved in the students’ education

On the morning of Wednesday, October 12th the 10th and 11th grade students are going to be taking the PSAT. This is an important test to start them on the road to which college they may choose to attend. Please make sure they get plenty of sleep the night before and are at their best for this test.

On Tuesday, October 25th, we are going to celebrate UN Day and celebrate the diversity of cultures and nationalities represented at our school. Please send your children to school in national costume on that day.  More details about what we will do to celebrate and how you can help with this celebration will be forthcoming.

The IISSAC Soccer tournament is on October 21st – 23rd. It will be held at Mountainview International Christian School in Salatiga, Central Java. Continue to support our soccer teas as they prepare for this.

To round off the month, as so the Elementary and Junior High soccer teams are not left out we will be hosting a futsal tournament for the elementary and Junior High Wesley MFC teams. This will be on October 28th – 29th. More information about the schedules will be coming out later.

God bless you and your support for the school.
